St James' Family Newsletter
Dear Parents and Friends of St James,
Our new term has started with great pace! We have already seen many of you at our topic showcases in Year 1 and 2, at our writing morning in KS2 and at our phonics and reading workshop in Reception and Year 1. Year 2 have been on a trip and our Reception Class have had visitors from Argyle House residential home for a dance class! We have a special event tomorrow when Year 4 will be leading our Remembrance service in school. If you are a Year 4 parent or would just like to come along, please arrive at school at 2:15 ready for a prompt 2:30 start!
Thank you to everyone who has supported the work of the British Legion by buying poppies – they will still be on sale tomorrow before school. Next week, our attention shifts to Children in Need. We are selling wristbands on the playground before school. I am sorry but ‘ears’ have already sold out but I am assured they can be bought at local stores…
On Friday 16th November, Children in Need Day, the children can come into school dressed in spots, as bears or in any other outfit they would like or MUFTI (within reason!) Please can they bring in a donation for this fantastic charity? We would also like the children to bring in a book from home that they have already read so we can have a book sale at the end of the day. Some children have also volunteered to run a cake sale so please come prepared when you pick up your child!
I am also asking for any help that you can offer making nativity costumes – Year 6 will be performing in Church on 17th December so we need a set of larger costumes. Any offers of sewing help or donations of fabric (and tea towels!) would be appreciated.
In another request – we are promoting male role models as readers with a ‘Boys, Books and Brunch’ morning on Wednesday 21st November at 9am. We would like any dads, brothers, uncles, grandads to come along and share a story with a few children. We have some footballers from the Cobblers joining us and we would love even more role models. You will be given breakfast in return!! Please let the office know if you can support us in this.
My final appeal for help is for the Christmas Craft Day on Friday 30th November. All children from Reception to Year 6 will be involved in a range of craft activities to get the school ready for the festive season and we need lots of help in all classrooms to cope with the amount of glitter and paint! Please let the office know and I will do my very best to ensure you are with your child (if you want to be!)
We have been successful in winning a grant to update our library stock – please make sure any school library books are brought back into school by Friday 23rd November so that we can stock check and order more books for the library and well done to Mrs Bagshaw for winning the £5000 grant from Foyles!
As ever, if you have any questions, queries or comments please do not hesitate to contact me. I might not always have an immediate answer, but I will always find out!
