St James' Family Newsletter

Dear Parents and Friends of St James,

We are having a busy week in school this week – Year 6 have been working hard and have just finished their SATs tests; we are very proud at how hard they have worked and we are sure they will have achieved a great set of results.

Tomorrow we are having a fundraising day in school for the Leicester Hospitals Charity, the organisation that helped Mrs Brooks when her baby was taken poorly soon after being born. All the children are invited to wear their own clothes for a donation to the charity and there will be a cake sale and tombola at the end of the day on the main playground. If you are able to donate cakes to sell, it would be very much appreciated.

Also on Friday, we have our pantomime for all the family. This starts at 6pm and tickets can be bought from the school office for £4/person (under 4s free). All ages welcome and profits will be donated to the Leicester Hospitals Charity.

On Tuesday next week (21st May) we are hosting some Online Safety workshops for parents at various times throughout the day. This will give you lots of tips and advice child safe online at home. Horrifying statistics suggest that:

  • Almost 1 in of 8 to 11-year-olds and in 4 of 12 to 15-year-olds has a social media profile
  • Around 1 in 8 young people have been bullied on social media
  • Almost in 4 young people have come across racist or hate messages online
  • 25% of children get away with pretending to be older to get an account online.

Our workshops will help you to set up parental restrictions and to be more aware of the type of sites and content that our children may be accessing without our knowledge. Please come along to one of the sessions at 9:00am, 2:30pm and 6:30pm (access through the studio door for the morning and afternoon sessions and through the office for the evening)

We are now a designated collecting point for the Hope Centre food bank. If you have any donations that you could make to this charity please drop off items with the office. The food bank are always looking for donations of tinned items, tea/coffee, pasta, loo roll and sugar.

After half term, we will be holding our Eid Party in school on the afternoon of Wednesday 5th June to celebrate the end of Ramadan. We will be asking for donations of party food and children are welcome to bring in party clothes for the afternoon. We will be doing henna tattoos for all children who have permission so please look out for the slip coming out next week. If you are able to come into school on the afternoon of the 5th to help with the henna or to run some party games, please let me know. The more the merrier!

And lastly, a reminder that we are offering a variety of options in our Nursery from this coming September. This includes 15 or 30 hours government funding as well as paid options for additional hours, a breakfast, lunch and after school club. Please register your interest at the school office or speak to a member of our Early Years staff.

Please see overleaf for an updated list of dates including Sports Days and Year 6 end of term activities so far!
