St James' Family Newsletter

Dear Parents and Friends of St James,

Eid Mubarak!

Our Muslim families celebrated Eid Al Fitr yesterday and tomorrow, we will continue that celebration in school with our Eid party for everyone. Children need to remember to bring in their party clothes to change into at lunchtime, contributions to the party food and their permission slips for a henna tattoo if they want one! There will be no hot meals served at lunchtime and no need to bring home packed lunches as the party food will be plentiful! Please see the list on your child’s classroom door for the things we need. Anyone with artistic flair who can come in and help with the henna tattoos would be most welcome! Please let the office know if you can make it.

We have some exciting news to share in that two members of staff got married over the Half Term break. Miss Ryan in Year 6 has become Mrs Strong – congratulations to Dee and Paul. We also send our congratulations to Miss Lucy Taylor in Year 2 who became Mrs Haynes when she married Ryan.

As well as getting married, Miss Taylor has made another life changing decision and, sadly, she will be leaving St James to take up an exciting opportunity in another primary school in September. While we are very sad that Miss Taylor will be leaving us, we are thrilled that she is progressing in her career and we know she will be fantastic in her new role. We have appointed a new teacher, Chrissy Felton to teach in Year 2 from September. If your child is going into Year 2 in September you will be able to meet Ms Felton during the Move Up days on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th July.

We are also saying a sad goodbye to Mrs Grantham at the end of the academic year as she retires to the Hereford countryside. Mrs Grantham currently covers PPA time in many classes across the school. Her role will be covered by Mr Doughty.

Even though the summer sun seems to have disappeared for a little while, we hope it will return soon. Please ensure your child has a hat, sun cream and a water bottle in school for these days.

Please note the change to our end of term celebration service at St James Church – this is now on Monday 22nd July at 2pm. Everyone is welcome and children can be taken straight home after the service.

Don’t forget, we are offering a variety of options in our Nursery from this coming September. This includes 15 or 30 hours government funding as well as paid options for additional hours, breakfast, lunch and after school club. Please register your interest at the school office or speak to a member of our Early Years staff.

Overleaf is the growing list of things happening in school next term. Please ask if you have any questions or comments.

Best Wishes

Mrs Sarah Beach

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Online Safety workshops. We deal with an increasing number of issues in school that are linked to online gaming and social media sites. When we discuss these issues with parents, they are always surprised that their child is involved and the ability of the children when using IT. We are trying hard to teach the children how to use technology safely in school but we all need to be aware of ways to help keep them safe at home too.  Mr Laundon recommends the following website which explains lots of parental controls and monitoring that you can implement at home. Please follow this link to find out more and if you have any concerns or questions, please contact myself or Mr Laundon at school and we will endeavour to help!
