Latest newsletter text for translation

Dear Parents and Friends of St James,

I cannot believe we are already over half way through the school year!

It has been a busy few weeks since the last newsletter with our Anti-Bullying Week, Parents Evenings, Candlemas, Year 5 Maths trip, Year 6 Residential, Year 6 ‘Sleep out’ for the Spencer Charity and our amazing Memorial Day that took place on Friday. During this day, each class took part in different activities to remember loved ones. Year 1 painted Memory Stones and placed them around Dallington Park – they have the class’s twitter account on them so if you find one, please tweet them a photo! We had a beautiful service on Friday afternoon full of celebration and memories; teaching our children that it is OK to grieve as well as understanding other’s feelings and emotions. I was so proud of every child and adult who took part – a real ‘goosebump’ afternoon and one that I hope will become an annual event.

We continue with the pace of exciting events with World Book Day on Thursday – we are having a Maths focus this year so please dress up in patterns, shapes or numbers (or your favourite book character if that is tricky!) We follow this with some NSPCC workshops and Sports Relief on Friday 13th March – details to follow soon for this.

Please be assured that the school is keeping a very close eye on the Government’s and Public Health England’s advice regarding Coronavirus. Please make sure you tell me or the office staff if you have any concerns or have recently returned from travels in affected regions. This is a quickly evolving situation so please make sure that we have your current contact details and follow the school newsfeed on Twitter (@StJamesNN5) as we will use both of these methods to contact parents if we need to.

I also have a few requests to make:

  • Please return your photo permission forms! Due to further changes in GDPR we must have your ‘Opt In’ to allow us to use photos in school (including taking individual and family photos via the school photographer on Friday 24th April!) If we have not received your form, a new letter will be sent out this week.
  • Please try not to park across driveways in streets around the school when dropping off / picking up. I sympathise that local parking is difficult but we have received several complaints about inconsiderate parking by parents from local residents. We will have to refer to the local PCSOs if this does not improve.
  • Our new PE kit system is working a treat – more time is spent active in PE lessons and I’d like to believe that lost property is reducing though that may just be a pipe dream! Please make sure that on PE days, your child comes to school in PE kit and a school jumper – not a labelled tracksuit or football shirt. Thank you.

Overleaf are our dates for the rest of the term and, as ever, if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please do not hesitate to stop me on the playground in the mornings or pop in and make an appointment.

Best Wishes,

Sarah Beach
