School Opening on Thursday 3rd September

Dear Parents,

We are really looking forward to welcoming you all back to school on Thursday 3rd September. This email outlines some of the steps we have in place for our ‘new normal’ as it stands at the moment. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me – or pop into school on the afternoons of Tuesday 1st or Wednesday 2nd September when someone will be able to help you.

Separate emails will be sent to existing Nursery and new Reception children over the next few days.

School reopens on Thursday 3rd September when all children are expected to return. If you are unable to return on this date, please call the school office on 01604 751475 or email on

Please note, absences due to quarantine when returning from foreign travel are classed as unauthorised and may lead to a fine and/or loss of a school place.

There will be a staggered start and finish time to the school day to control the number of people on the school site at any one time whilst keeping the length of the school day the same for each child. We would ask that you stick to these drop off and pick up times. We have staggered these times by surname to allow family groups to drop off/pick up together.

Drop off

Pick Up

Surnames A – E

8:30 – 8:40

3:00 – 3:10

Surnames F – M

8:40 -8:50

3:10 – 3:20

Surnames N -Z

8:50 – 9:00

3:20 – 3:30

Drop Off

Please enter school through the left hand main gate on Harlestone Road at the time slot for your surname. The Lewis Road gate will remain locked. Please stick to the left hand side of the drive way at all times.

  • Children in KS2 will enter school through the blue gates. Parents will not be allowed past this point.
  • Children in Year 1 and Year 2 (old Reception and Year 1 children) will enter school through the Reception gate as they will spend a few days with their old classes and teachers to ensure a supported transition. Parents will be informed when drop off points will change to the new classes.

Children will sanitise their hands and go directly to their new classroom via their classroom door. Staff will be on hand in the first few days if children are unsure where to go.

Pick Up

The Lewis Road gate will be locked – please enter school via the left hand main gate on the Harlestone Road. Please stick to the time slot for your surname and please be aware that the main gate will be locked until 3:00pm so please do not arrive earlier than that to pick up children.

Staff will be on hand at the main gate on Harlestone Road with walkie talkies to radio ahead for your child(ren). Please make sure you have spoken to a member of staff on entry and bear with us as there are many more children to call than we have been used to during lockdown! Please wait for your child outside the blue gates. All children will sanitise their hands on the way out.

If your child is in year 4/5 or 6, you may want to give permission for them to walk home from school. Children WILL NOT be allowed to leave school without this permission. A letter will follow in the next few days for you to complete for this.

We are sorry – but we are unable to allow parents into school. If you need to see a member of staff at the end of the day, please contact the school office and we will arrange that.

We will still be running a ‘bubble’ system with all children within a year group being considered one bubble. Each bubble will have separate breaktimes and lunchtimes. Having year group bubbles means we can staff interventions, cover between classes and ensure we provide a full curriculum. Enhanced cleaning throughout the day will be in place.

Other things to note:

  • Children will be expected to wear school uniform each day unless it is a PE day when they should come to school in PE kit (pale blue T-shirt / dark shorts or tracksuit / school jumper) Your child will not need PE kit on the first, short week. PE will start on Monday 7th September on the following days:

      Year 1 – Thursday

      Year 2 – Thursday

      Year 3 – Tuesday

      Year 4 – Tuesday

Year 5 – Monday and Friday

      Year 6 - Wednesday

  • Children do NOT need to bring a pencil case from home – they will be given their own set of stationery in school.

  • Please note, there will still be no Breakfast Club or After School Club provision for the first term. We will review this with the latest guidance at the October half term.

  • Face coverings are currently NOT recommended for children or staff in primary schools. However, if your child would prefer to wear a face covering, they may do so. We would request that this covering is not decorated to be scary (i.e images of skeletons).

  • So that we can maintain social distancing at break and lunchtimes, we will need to use all areas of the outdoor space at school, regardless of the weather. We therefore ask that children bring a pair of wellies and a rainproof jacket to keep in school. Please make sure these are named!

  • There may be a limited school dinner menu on offer at the start of term. I will contact you as soon as I have further information about this.

We are all looking forward seeing you back in school next week. Enjoy the rest of the holiday in the meantime!

Best Wishes - Sarah Beach
