Pupil Premium Funding

The Government awards additional funding to schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged, looked after or service family children.  In 2023/24, this funding was set at £1455 per pupil identified as disadvantaged, £2530 for looked after and previously looked after children and £335 for children of Service personnel.  At St James, this money is spent in an number of ways including the provision of additional curriculum opportunities for disadvantaged children; financial support for school trips and extra-curricular activities as well as funding additional staff in school to provide targeted interventions and classroom support. From 2021/22, the PP strategy statement also incudes the funding for Recovery Premium.

PE and Sports Premium Funding

The Government currently provides additional funding for PE and Sport. In 2023/24, this is £16,000 plus £10/pupil in Years 1-6. At St James, we allocate this money to develop and broaden the sporting provision for all children: providing funding for transport to extra curricular events and competitions; providing high quality equipment for PE lessons and recreational, break time activities and to develop our staff to deliver high quality PE sessions.
